Some time ago, I purchased from A&A a bare blade of their German bastard sword with the intention of making a sword of my own design. But time went by until I could get to it, and in the process, the blade was forgotten outdoors for several days in Florida's humid weather. I'm sure you can guess the rest.
So, I had to regrind the blade and also, slightly change the geometry. Finally, I completed the sword to Version 1 with a tapered dismountable grip. Sometime later, an idea struck me that I could make an entirely different hilt for the sword, with a waisted grip of Version 2. After that, I made another waisted grip Version 3, which is similar to Version 2, but fancier.
There was no end to this, the limit was only imagination. Even now, since all the parts are interchangeable, I can have many more versions. It is like dressing differently for different occasions.
With due respect to historical purists, I believe this is an obvious advantage of the dismountable hilts.
The attached pictures will demonstrate my point.

Some neat stuff there.
Interesting what people can do with some of the production stuff. There are times I wish I had that creative fire myself but for whatever reason I can never see what can be until it is. I'm glad your vision is working well for you!!

Thank you Joe for your kind words.
Just to clarify, I have designed and handmade all of the components of the hilt.
The only purchased item was the blade.

Of the three versions, I like 2b the best. There's something about the grip that I don't like as much in the other two versions. The wasted grip seems to suit the sword nicely.
Nice work.

I agree Craig, The classic waisted grips, specially on long handles, 10 1/4 inches in this case, always look elegant and classy.
Then again, it is a matter of taste, something that we seem to share.
Thanks for your good words.
