Hi there,
My name is Chuck and I'm glad to have joined this forum. I live in the FL panhandle and I have had a lifelong interest in swords and martial arts, however it is only recently that I have finally made efforts to acquire my first Western blades and begin training in HEMA. I have started to read the source material and have found an instructor, I look forward to learning more about blades and the martial ways of my ancestors.
My first post was actually a WTB ad, as I'm looking for an AT1433 war sword. For anyone replying to that ad, I have been a trusted member of *bay for over 10 years and my primary hobby, traditional archery, has had me active on the archery forums and well known (handle nineworlds9). I am also personally acquainted with Jason Vail, author and authority on historical European dagger combat, he's father to one of my best friends.

Thank you. Yes my favorite eras are the Viking age as well as the Middle Ages. I have an appreciation for other periods, but I kind of lose interest once past the Renaissance. I will be learning the longsword and perhaps sword and buckler. My first European sword which I recently acquired is a smith-forged type XVIIIc longsword. It is a piece of functional art, I was fortunate to find a sword by a one-man operation made with heart and soul. I will likely acquire a few more blades, but my main desire is to bond with one well and learn to use it well by studying HEMA with instruction/guidance.

Welcome to the forum Chuck.
Swords can be a funny thing. I started out with Katana and then branched out to the Viking swords. I also got interested in the Middle Age swords and some Renaissance swords. As of late, the saber bug has bitten me.
As time goes on, I have developed an appreciation of most swords in general.

Here you go. Hand forged by a smith named Jeremy Eichelberger. All natural materials, even down to the plant based pigments used to dye the leather. 42.5" overall, 33" blade.

The blade is differentially tempered 1075. It has a nice amount of flex, but is 'no whelp' in the words of its maker. It is considered a 'civilian' longsword...meant for unarmored duels and self defense, though I bet it would do fine in a war. It seems to have nice balance to me and feels like it has a powerful cut. The blade taper is gradual and very pleasing to the eye, the first third of the blade is blunt for half-swording. The base of the blade is 2 3/8" wide. It is a fine weapon and more than I could hope for in a first European sword.
