Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide with the following question.

The Templar Order to which I belong has decided to give a sword to the outgoing Grand Prior. They have decided on the Accolade Sword from Museum Replicas which is etched with the motto of our Order. They would like to have the blade engraved with the outgoing Prior's name and number. Getting the sword for them is not a problem for me but in our immediate area of NC I have not found anyone who will engrave in steel. Everyone around here, as is typical I guess, engraves in brass, silver and gold using diamond tip gravers which simply won't do steel. There was a lady a few miles from here who did engrave on steel and just about everything else. In fact, she did a sword for me several years ago which went to the Clan MacAulay in Scotland. But, the lady has passed away.

Does anyone on the forum know of an engraver in North or South Carolina who might undertake this type of work? If so, please provide the name and contact information. I am pretty mobile but am looking for someone within three hours or so driving time from Shelby, NC.

Have you considered etching? Steel can be engraved, but it is best done before the blade is hardened and tempered. Etching will work regardless.

Another possibility is laser engraving.
