Hi, everyone. I'm C Kuzik, from Canada. I work, train strongman, love to study history, Et al. Feel free to ask about me.
Let's talk about shields. I've been researching as much as possible about the Kyivska Rus, as for as armour goes. Lately I've been attempting various shield construction methods for various projects. So far it's been an aspis, a Scythian wicker shield. a late Roman scutum, a small buckler, and others. I make these all by hand out of raw hard and soft woods, along with any fixings in my forge.
There is something boring into me, though. What about these shields used by the Kyivska Rus? I'm as familiar with viking shields as anyone else, and their place in KR history, but this... How were they constructed? What sort of woods did the Slavs utilize? How big were these? How were they carried?
Details! I'll make it worth your while by posting eye candy when I get a new camera.
Thanks, and all he best,
C Kuzik

Uh oh. I think this may be in the wrong category. Is it possible to move this topic?

I think you're posting this topic in the right thread.
Perhaps you can show us any photos of Kievan Rus shields like this for example.

For early Rus history, regular viking round shields, about 1000AD they probably adopted kite like pretty much everybody else. Cavalry might have used both kites and smaller round shields...

Kite shields appear in iconographic sources around 1030-1040. So about 1000 AD they were not known.
