A few months ago I got the bright idea of replacing the butted mail voiders on my leather arming coat with riveted mail voiders. Have all the proper equipment, but am in a quandary as to how tight I should "stretch" the mail. Intend to tack the corners and then thread a 1/8" rawhide lace through the outer links, then do an individual loop that will pass through coat material, a link, and the 1/8" lace, then be tied with double knot. Gave some thought to using a heavy waxed twine, but am afraid of the knot slipping. Have decided on a heavy nylon thread with maybe two loops. Any suggestions, comments, criticisms (constructive or otherwise), would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Dan

I use a similar method for my voiders. I run paracord (gasp!) through the links along the entire perimeter of the voider. Waxed thread ripped too easily and I haven't got around to purchasing a nice waxed linen cord.

I then tie it to my arming coat using leather laces going through sewn eyelets, around the paracord and through a link. There's about 12 ties per voider.

I secure it tightly to the torso area, tightly near the terminus (nearest the elbow), and leave slack in the armpit area. I hope this sentence makes sense to you!
