the title says it all,
I'm looking to construct a crossbow mans pavise at the time of Crecy, the very few illustrations and photos from museums are not awfully clear, there is a fantastic thread on 15thC pavises but i have serious doubts that mid 14thc ones were constructed to the same level, museum ones show the few 14thc ones to be a lot less decrotive than 15thc ones, also the centre gully seems to be none exsistant on 14thc one BUT it is hard to really confirm if this is correct or not

i have tried a few places for info but all i get quoted back are referances to 15thc ones

any thoughts/ideas/ knowledge/ images/ etc that anyone can pass on would be very welcome

just to clear things up. i am not seeking to justify a flat faced one,, that is only what i suspect, if genuine evidance shows mid 14thc ones to have gullys thats great

i just do not want to ASSUME that mid/late 15c looked like they did 100 -150 years earlier

yes thats quite interesting, seems to referanced to 13th century, with a gully, so it does lend some credance that if construction with a centre gully was in the 13th and 15th, then probby was also for the 14th

ty more such referances still welcomed
