Hi All,

I have just finished the first crossbow making course I have run and it was a great success.

I provide the metal work blocked out, but not finished and everything else is made by the students.

We start by going through the technology of the bow and why it is laid out as it is and what each part does and why it is like that.

We then go on to make the string, which becomes the datum for laying out all the other aspects of the bow and then go on to set the trigger system and then shape the stock. The last stage is to lash the bow in place, make all the adjustments and then to shoot it.

The course is designed for all the students to make munition grade bows of either 150lb or 250lb, however one of the students was a cabinet maker and wanted to make a hunting bow so we also have a 350lb one of these!

The students from left to right are Martin, Alex and Tom and the results are fantastic. The bows shot well and the students had a great time - Thank you to all three of them for making this first course such a success.

If anyone has any questions about this course or any future ones; please ask.

Regards

Tod

You ran a crossbow making course!

The work that the course has achieved looks to be of excellent quality, apart from the cabinet maker did either of the other people on the course have any experience?

Also how can I find out if you run any further courses?

That looks like a real blast. The finished products look great.

If you ever hold one in Australia, I'll certainly be there, hahaha.

Very, very cool Tod! I've been wanting to try making a crossbow, but haven't had the courage to jump on it yet. If you weren't across the big blue wobbly thing I'd have signed up for sure. The results sure are impressive.

Nobody had any direct experience of making bows, obviously Tom the cabinet maker could deal with wood, but Martin the older chap described himself as an above avaerage DIY'er and Alex although showing promise and very capable is still quite inexperienced.

I will be posting up more course information in the next few weeks and I may make an announcement on my facebook page announcing new dates shortly.
