I got an e-mail from Vince yesterday with photos of my new dirk which is being shipped on Friday. It is his standard model dirk which means we have all seen many like it but this one is mine! I am excited and as I wrote to Vince, at my age there are not many things to get excited about.

I think you're going to be very surprised when you get it in hand. Photos do not give a person any indication of the character that Vince's dirks present when in the hand.

I was fortunate enough to be able to hold a silver mounted dirk by Vince at the Atlanta Blade Show in June. I know exactly what you mean.

That looks great. Happy I've not seen many of his scabbards in brown. It looks striking.

Really like the detailing on the pommel and I really want to try some of that knotwork carving on my own DIY projects.

Congratulations on a very nice looking Dirk. Big Grin Cool

Thanks very much. I would like to do some carving myself and having this dirk to examine may help that plan move forward. You may be aware that Vince and Grace put out a DIY CD Rom a couple of years ago and a book as well. These works are complimentary. Both are available through www.lulu.com. There is also a lengthy piece on the same subject in Blade Magazine's Guide to Making Knives - 2nd edition. Having all three of these references will be very helpful to you.

He asked whether I wanted black or brown and I decided on brown. It does look very nice, complimenting the finish on the handle. It has been shipped and I hope to have it by the end of next week.

Thanks Chris...you will. It will be out with me early and often! By the way, according to the Postal Service tracking information I should have it on Monday, the 23rd.
