Hi people.
Some friends of mine are doing early imperial legionary reenactment. The group does steel reeactment fighting, but are not very experienced. Of late they have been talking about having someone (potentialy me) doing a introduction course with them.
So, my question is: Does anyone have practiacal experience figthing with roman scuta and gladii? Regardless of style/rules. I am looking for input on fighting stance, shield design, and so on.
"this [fight] looks curious, almost like a game. See, they are looking around them before they fall, to find a dry spot to fall on, or they are falling on their shields. Can you see blood on their cloths and weapons? No. This must be trickery."

Apart from re-enactment groups..I suspect the most..practical..training around now would be police riot control methods with riot shields and truncheons/batons ??
