About three years ago we initiated a census to count how many HEMA practitioners there are worldwide. The idea was that we needed some hard data to raise some interest amongst the manufacturers of protective gear. The data then indicated that there were about 10,000 practitioners and since then we now have at least four major fencing equipment manufacturers and a few dedicated HEMA equipment suppliers that have picked up the glove.
However, I have realised that the numbers are often outdated. For instance the Academy of Historical Arts have gone from 20 to 90 members which is quite amazing. So, I think it is about time to update the numbers.
You can find the census here: http://www.hroarr.com/survey/worldwide/practitioners/
The original letter is also included through that link, if you click through the pages.
Feel free to repost this on various HEMA forums and share it in social media.
Thank you!
