Hi Guys,
I have a great Migration Period Germanic sword... replica of a sword that was found in the Netherlands (near Cuijk) and is dated around 450 AD.
I'm making a nice scabbard for it but I was wondering what kind of fittings I should use. Can somebody inspire me? Maybe somebody has some very nice pictures of good looking Thorsberg fittings for scabbards?
Thanks

Hi Magin,
You can find examples of scabbards and scabbard fittings from the Danish bogs (Kragehul, Thorsberg, Vimose etc) in some of my on-line photoalbums:-

And some of my attempts to reconstruct them can be seen here:-

The best books to get would be Conrad Engelhardt's three volume work on the various Mosefunds, but even the 1970s reprints are hard to find these days. However, you can see a scanned copy of the one volume English translation here, which includes line drawings of some of the scabbards and fittings:-

I've got the full three volume work and scabbards of this period are one of my main interests so, if you need any more information, let me know.
