I did a search here on this site, and learned a lot, but I still have a couple of questions...

Did all ELBs have horn knocked ends?

Does anyone have any good original period pictures depicting 12th and 13th C archers they could post, or links to such?

How about good images of original English broadheads? I've found good information and pictures on the bodkin, lozenge and chisel types.

When I search google, I don't get good original pictures for documentation purposes, but more modern images.

I'm afraid if you really want to learn more about the the English medieval bow you're going to have to commit to buying yourself a few books. They will serve you far better than Google.

I'd recommend the following:

Secrets of the English Warbow, by H Soar
The Great Warbow, by Strickland and Hardy
Arrowstorm, by R Wadge

(I'm curious what your underlying hypothesis is - that is, why do you want to know about 12th - 13th Century English bows and hunting heads?)

Thanks for your help! I'm always looking for good books to add to my library. I have the "Bowyer's Bibles" but nothing specifically on the ELB. .

I have always had an interest in marksmanship, rifle, pistol or bow. I often shoot my firearms, but it has been years since I've shot a bow. I'd like to get back into archery more seriously than I was before, especially since there is an archery range within walking distance of my house.

As to the broadheads, I'm curious as to how easy they would be to make (I'm interested in making my own arrows too) and at some point (no pun intended) I'd like to take a deer with a medieval bow and arrow.

I have a lot of other curiosities concerning medieval archery too, and will post more questions later.

You might also want to consider joining the English Warbow Society (englishwarbowsociety.com). An affiliated membership costs £5 (about $7.50) and grants you access to all the EWBS resources, including its forum. On the forum you can ask questions directly to Master bowyers and Master arrowsmiths about making bows and arrows, as well as experts in shooting the heavy medieval bows.

Also look out for The Longbow series of instructional DVDs. Here's a review of part 1
