No doubt you have read some of the history about amorphous metals but do you realize it has been a discussion on blade oriented boards for some time? The CalTech articles of the past year have brought attention to metallic glasses again but realize that companies such as Liquid Metal and Corning along with a host of others have been playing with it for quite awhile.. A guy named Clark worked with Liquid Metal to fabricate bar stock for stock removal knives and there had been a rumor of a katana being done for the company. The Liquid MEtal company has done a number of product uses and small poured blades have been part of that. POking around the knife boards will yield a bunch of discussions.
Considering costs and applications, amorphous metals still have a way to go before a consumer level sword blade is going to be a reasonable concept. There are though a great number of applications already in use and the advances in technology with find use that will eventually offer Terminator 2 realities.
Transportation, just for a for instance, is where the possibilities and uses will be much more in demand.
