I am curious to know if any work has been undertaken to investigate the site of the Battle of the Ice (Battle of Lake Peipus), which took place in 1242. Folklore tells us that a goodly number of the Teutonic Knights in this battle fell through the ice, though it seems this is not supported by contemporary accounts of the event. Even so, I wonder if it may have happened - and even if it did not - what sorts of finds may exist from the clash of some eight-thousand combatants.

Is anyone aware of any finds (arms/armour/accoutrements) from this site or any past or ongoing work into such? I've done some looking around but didn't turn up much, and I imagine if there were, it'd be in Russian.
