Hi everyone,
I have trouble finding movies on youtube about saber fencing. Mostly I got light saber fencing...and not the kind of light saber the English cavalry used against the French in the battle of Waterloo. I dont mind which time period, one of my trainers told me that my fighting style with a one handed sword is very much like saber fencing, so I put some research into it.
If you are looking for the style of saber training the English used for the 1796 Light Cavalry Saber, why not go with LeMarchant's manual who also designed the sword. Its pretty rudimentary but easy to find. I think I paid about $5 for my copy. Also look at reenactment units who would have used said sword... this group posted some videos. http://www.xvld.org/1796-light-cavalry-sabre-sword-drill.html
Last one. Looks to be a fight school run by the Polish fight master in the first video with lots of drills. I think this is the one you will find the most helpfull as it has some excellent drills.
There is some very nice stage combat in some of those videos. I notice that Janusz uses the same technique of turning his sword so the guard protects the back of his hand that le Marchant recommended. It seems like Eastern European sabre styles like flow drills alternating one attack with one parry; those drills adapt nicely to putting on a show.
