There is a new magazine on the subject of medieval warfare whose first issue has just been published: http://www.medieval-warfare.com/cms/. Among other things, it features an article by John Clements about mail armour's protective capacity. Anticipating that some of you will want to prove that John is wrong, (you know who you are Wink), some will be eager to seize upon his statement in the article about swords being able to cut through mail.

However, this isn't actually John's statement, and is exactly the opposite of the intent of the article. John's point is that mail can be rent, popped, and torn from links splitting apart, but it cannot be cut through by a sword. The statement about mail being cut is an editorial mistake; it's text that the editor added to the article which was am erroneous amendation, and the editor said that he will issue a correction in issue #2.

Anyways, it seems like a worthwhile magazine, with an article also on the Battle of Bouvines. I ordered my copy earlier today.

It is likely to be a very good publication coming from the stable that produces 'Ancient Warfare' magazine which it self is a quality periodical. Friend and fellow Wulfheodenas member Steve Pollington has contributed an article on the use of the horse in Early Anglo-Saxon warfare in this first issue.

A good editior should be able to trust the peer reviewers and keep his nose out of subjects of which he has no knowledge.
