Hi All,

I have been quite of late tied up on some long term projects and one of them was this bullet bow.

This based off the drawings from Payne Gallwey for an early 19thC bullet bow. As is a the case with trigger assemblies on complicated bows it was a pig as you have to be able to release powerful loads safely and reliably with an easy squeeze so the trigger mech must have been apart and together 100 times by the end.

The stock is elm, the plates are brass and the mechanism is steel. The string is waxed linen with box wood spacers and the whole draws about 190lb and shoots 20 guage lead shot very well indeed. The inbuilt lever means that loading is not hard.

Dammit Tod, just when I think I've reached a level of calm and serene fulfillment and satisfaction with my collection you go and do this........... It doesn't fit any particular period I do and yet......

I am irresistably drawn to a comparision with a prototype Wookie Bowcaster with Steampunk ambitions; don't let Fiona see it or Gary and I will never stop running.

That's gorgeous. I love stonebows and it's nice to see others do too.

The one I want copied, eventually, is dated 1745 and German- shaped like a musket so the bullet travels down the barrel for accuracy.
