I'm looking to identify this dagger. What I believe its history is that my grandfather brought this back from WWI.
The dagger is approximatly 14" long 1 1/2 " wide, it has a very thin blade about 3mm at its maximum.
Just looking for some background to its age and country of origin.
David: Maybe it's just your pics but the blade looks like it has a lot of red rust on the surface and this should at least be neutralized to stop continuing rusting.
With a valuable piece I would say be careful how much or how far you go cleaning an antique but with this one it may not be too much of a factor but to keep it's patina and history I wouldn't try to polish it bright but at least neutralize the rust and oil the surface. You can easily give up your freedom. You have to fight hard to get it back!
