A lot of items on this museum site:

The images are low resolution but still quite good. A very impressive 2-hander somewhere in there.

Tak Tjarand, some lovely hilts amongst those photos. I wonder why Norway has so many dussage/Sinclair type hilts. Where in Oslo is the folk museum? Is it on Bygdoy? Thought I'd seen all the museums there, looks like another trip is needed; better start saving my crowns to afford the Ol I'll need as lubricant.

Nice. fascinating array of stuff, truly interesting how late they date some items. I can't read Norwegian--can I search the items by date at the top? Is that "Dat"?

"Datering" means dating.
It's a good website. Much of what's shown on the website is from Forsvarsmuseet (the Museum of Defence). Too bad they haven't made an English version of the site, as I'm sure it would open to a wider audience.

Cheers,
Henrik

Yes, "Dato" means "date" in Norwegian.

You may also look around other museum collections in Scandinavia through this site for galleries, books and articles, and links:

This link is for living history enthusiasts with a good batch of Bronze and Viking Age artifacts.

Many of the items on the site in my post is from the Maihaugen open air museum at Lillehammer. Just north of Oslo. A bit of a tourist trap really but for anyone historically interested it's very good. I'm not sure they are displaying the entire weapons collection though. stephen, yes, folkemuseet is at bygdøy, next to the vikingship museum. museum of defence and kulturhistorisk museum is downtown oslo. If you visit on a sunday, you can also see the reenactmentgroups training outside the museum of defence.

Thanks Audun, can't think how I missed it last time! Always think of Oslo museums as Vikings and Edvard Munck for some reason and go to Stockholm for ogling the 17th century stuff! Norway is easier to get to amd quicker, might have to make a round trip at Easter.
