What was typically worn under the late 15th - late 16th cent Armet type helmet? Was a maille coif still used or just a padded arming cap? The armet looks very form fitting to the head and I have no idea how much clearance was provided for standoff distance between the plate and the skull. Were the armet's just heavily lined/padded for wear directly against the scalp?
