Greetings,

Are there any any American Civil War buffs out there? Desire some assistance in identifying some uniform items. Concerning the buttons I have a fairly good about them, but the other rectangular devices are a mystery to me.

Also wondering about the photo of a cadet(?). Looks like a military academy uniform, but can't even hazard a guess.

Thanks in advance...

Cheers,
Dan

I would put the print at ca. 1900, give or take a decade, and not necessarily from an academy. Many colleges had military programs. See if Harvard or Boston College had a cadet corps.

EDIT: A-ha! I get a gold star for the date!

"Handwritten on the back of the photo is "Florence Wallace, May '94." It was taken by G. Walden Smith of 164A Tremont St, Boston."

Sean,

Thank for the rapid reply and the site info. Your comments jogged my memory as I recall seeing such schools listed in very early copies of the National Geographic magazine. Many years ago, much to my parent's dismay, I managed to accumulate 50 to 60 years worth by mining 2nd hand stores, etc.

BTW, the bevor I acquired from you is alive and well and is permanently mated to a Coventry sallet.

I'm with you on the NG. Who could throw out such wonders? Glad to hear the bevor is well matched. Happy
