I will be hosting an Albion Round Table/Forum Gathering, and would like to extend an invitation to those within "range".
please respond if you are interested in attending, either here, or by PM or e-mail.

Prospective time-frame is late September/early October. Please include in your post/PM/e-mail desired dates. I am thinking of having it on a Saturday, as this gives the most flexibility to the most people.

Place Cincinnati, Ohio, at the humble(very humble Happy ) abode of Nate Bell

date: late Sept./early Oct.---please let me know of your preferred availability

other stuff: light refreshments will be provided. I highly encourage visitors to bring a stock of pool noodles, empty milk jugs, and/or empty 2-liter bottles. Minors (under 18) are permitted but please have a Responsible Adult accompany and vouch for them (we had a great, well behaved, easily directable group of young ones at the last Round Table). There will be no alcohol provided, and please do not bring/consume any for the event itself. If folks wish to go out for a beer afterwards, that's all fine. Happy smoking will be permitted outdoors.

Focus is on Albionware, but as this is a social and sharing event, you may bring other swords.

I hope we can have a good turnout, so let me know if you are "in"!

I should be good about any old day except Labor Day weekend and where Halloween ends up falling around here.

I emailed you also, but I'm good for every weekend except the first one in October.

It'll be fun to go to one of these without having to worry about playing host. Happy

I know it's really (really) early, but did Mike give any hints of the goodies he'd like to send?

Happy

Thanks guys, it will be good to see you again, as usual.

Chad brings up a good point:

Goodies: Please post what you would most like to see from Albion. Mike would like a list, then we can see what they can swing.

If Chad and Joe bring their swords, we will have:

Baron
Regent
Sempach
Sovereign

Personally, I would like to see one of the new Vikings: Jarl, Hersir, Huscarl---Berserkr or Thegn or Valkaria if available!
I would also like to see a Mainz gladius, and a Viceroy. Again, I would love to see a Kingmaker if it's ready by then!

Nate,
The Meijer down by you had a ton of pool noodles (a few hundred) when I was there a month ago. They may still have some.

I think Joe's sword is the Landgraf, not the Sempach.

I'd like to see any of the Vikings. The prince is really cool, too. If they have any of the squire line done by then, you might be able to attract some of the ARMA crowd.

Happy

I will absolutely bring the toys. Probably a waster and some of my recent book purchases as well if people want to see them. Tobler has a new one I recently purchased that seems to be designed as a "start here" guide to German Longsword. I've only done some light reading thus far, but it seems pretty god and is layed out in lesson plan fashion. However, I will leave my toys from other vendors at home if Albion is going to be generous enough to send stuff out again.

As for requests, a Viceroy would be nice since its new and one of the Vikings would a be a different twist. Something from the Squire line might also be worth requesting so people could see the product at that price point; if they are ready.

Whatever they send, you might want to print the information pages for each sword AND print some copies of the ording instructions from the website if Albion does not have catalogs ready yet. That way you have some meat to go with the pamplets. BTW might also ask them to send you some business cards for the company (or Mike) as handout items with the pamplets. Again, more meat. Big Grin

Correct.

D'oh---my bad entirely.

Chad, thanks for the tip re: Meijer's. I will try to start stockpiling. In fact, I'll be swinging by before work here in a minute or two.

Great input re: the Squire line, I had slipped on that one, and will definitely tell Mike that we want a squire line piece---I am thinking a longsword, since so many practice longsword.

Joe---yes, it would be great to bring the training books, especially ones with lots of illustration, both modern and period.

Also, regarding books: I do not have Records of the Medieval Sword or Sword in Hand---it would be nice to have one of those around to reference. I do have Arms and Armour of the Medieval Knight (the big red book that Nathan recently gave away here in a contest), AOW, Swords and Hilt Weapons, and a few others to help with the talk/ground the swords in history. I do not have any of the Viking sword stuff---Peterson, Geibig, Behmer or Wheeler; or even The Sword in Anglo-Saxon England. It would be nice to have a viking reference book on hand, if anybody coming has one. If not, certainly *not* essential to the party.

BTW my e-mail is nate-beccy@att.net to confirm attendence, ask Q's, whatever. However, please don't send attachments on first contact as my virus program will reject the e-mail....

More news as I know it!

On the request topic.

It might be neat to see some grips in colors other than black if that can be pulled off.

OOOOHH!! ME! ME ME! ME! I wanna go! I'll be there! Surprised

Weekends are great. My schedule is flexible. Any weekend would work.

I've got some swordsmanship books I can bring as well, and a couple of Oakeshott's. If it's kosher, I'll bring my Lutel longsword for use and abuse, as well as some pool noodles (though sometimes they can be hard to find around here).

If you want to attract more ARMA guys (like the Ohio guys) post this topic on the ARMA forum as well. [url]www.thearma.org/forum .

Wish list from Albion:

Any of the Squire line that may be available
Museum Line's Solingen (please please)
Viceroy
Any of the Vikings
Squire or Prince
Baron (if Chad can't come or can't bring his)
Regent and Landgraf (if Joe can't come or can't bring his)

I'm very sure the Regent and Landgraf will make it again.

Hi Nate,

Early October works better for me, provided my truck is running
okay by then. It'll be pretty touch-and-go for me until the beast
is for sure, up-and-running. I'll do my best to get down there.

I'm sure we can come up with a way to get you there safely if your transportation refuses to cooperate.

Hi Joe,

I hadn't even thought of bumming a ride. Must be my pride messing with me,
subconciously. Happy If a ride is available, that definately increases my chances of
making it. As soon as a date is chosen, I'll ask the wife. Oh, before I forget.
I have reserve duty the weekend of Sep 18-19, and won't be able to attend
anything those days.

Take care,

Alex

Then consider a ride offered. Big Grin

If Nathan's wife is going to be around, we could always bring wives and let them stay or go as they wished. I'm sure mine would go, and then disappear to the casinos in Indiana. On second thought maybe they should stay home. Eek!

David, it would be my pleasure to have you attend, and please bring the fechtbooks, it would be a great illustrative aid. I have no problems with people bringing other swords, but we will do a specific Albion program at the beginning and have a strong focus on the Albion swords.

Alex, it would be great to have you, as well, and you are most welcome to Dun na Bell. Do you think you might be able to make Sept. 25 if you could bum a ride?

Dates: here is my plan. I plan to keep this thread up for a bit, as well as the one at Netsword, and hopefully post on the ARMA forums tonight (just registered). I am sort of waiting to get "clearance" from the SFI forum admin staff, as I don't want to post and have the post subsequently deleted---not sure what the status is since this Gathering is Albion related, and I want to post properly and go through "channels".

In a few days, I will pick a date, based on comments, and see if people can commit.

Right now I am leaning toward either September 25 OR October 8 these later dates will give Albion time to have more goodies ready....

Nate's notes:
*I stopped by Meijer and picked up a box of pool noodles----about 34. Joe, David, and Chad, do you guys think that will be enough? It seems we had about 50 (?) before. Should I pick up some more before they disappear, do you think?

*That in mind, still working out if it would be at all possible to cut int he event of rain. I do not have many options (no garage) but I am trying to think of a solution to that connundrum.

*Mike says that he will try to supply a rough catalog for the event.

*Anybody that has cameras, especially digital, I would highly encourage them to bring with. We could use a multitude of pics from different perspectives.

*The wife and Master Logan will likely not be present for the event, to make it possible for us and easier on new baby. Wives are still welcome to come, if they wish to endure us menfolk and our lack of social graces Wink

SFI didn't delete a post I did about the July event, they just moved it to the off-topic forum. We probably had 60 here, and we used every one. I have some here that I can try to bring, but it may be good to pick up some more. I'll try to bring my camera, but I want to play this time, since I don't have to play host. Happy

Hey Chad,

Thanks for the tip re: Meijers, I'll likely try to pick up some more in the next couple of days.

Nate's notes
*Posted over at ARMA, hope to drum up some interest there

*Re-mailed SFI admin. If I do not hear back by the weekend, I guess I will just post over there in the "Pub" and hopefully not ruffle any feathers.

I'll do my best to attend... last weekend in Spet is best for me.

I'd like to see the Prince and the the Sempach most... followed rapidly by the Regent.

Julie and I will plan on making it down. Not sure what I might have finished up, but I'll try to bring something. I'll bring Records, Swords of the Viking Age, and The sword in anglo saxon england. Anything else you can think of that I have or can get Nate?
