I probably won't get any answer, but you guys are probably the most knowledgeable when it comes to subjects like this.

What was the military horse population during the Roman Era? Like what the Europeans did later on, did the Romans keep records of how many horses they had at their disposal?

The last de re militari volume out had an article by Carroll Gillmor on warhorse breeding in the medieval period, I believe Edward I.
