I have read repeatedly that the Border Reivers carried by preference a small light crossbow called a "larch" as opposed to larger long bows. Does anyone have a description or picture of one? Thanks in advance, guys!

You're looking for a "latch" or "latchet bow". See this thread and don't miss the photos of Leo Todeschini's recreated latchet bow. Gorgeous piece....
