On average, according to wiki they way it was around 80lbs. But that seems a little light.

That's a little heavy granted the one in the met weighs that much but usually it weighed the same as the riders armour (55-60 lbs) IIRC. And you shouldn't ever trust Wiki

Will dig for some linkys

Here's some that may help you

I was under the impression medieval armour ranged from 45-75, so 80 doesn't sound too high. Considering it was four a horse (bigger target) I assumed it was thicker.

Plate is pretty thin thickness isn't the point the point is to provide a glancing surface that deflect the arrow/blow/bolt/ball/ etc.

Before we go on, I can't help feeling the need to ask one thing: what specific kind of barding?

Lol, once again my lack of knowlegde hinders this discussion.

It depends. How prevelant was barding? What types were prevelant? If mail was common then how much did that weigh, if plate was more common (I assumed it was) then how muc did that weigh.

You also need to specify a time period and region. There was no plate barding before the 15th century. Middle Eastern horse protection differed from Western European stuff and Asian armor was different again.

Well I know really nothing about barding so do you have a good source (perferably online) that I could use?

I heard what you said about plate barding beinga 15th century thing, but was barding (in western europe) ever popular?
And before plate what did they use? Mail? Padding?

Regards.

The third volume of Guy Laking's compendium:

may be largely outdated, but its overview on the development of horse tack and barding still seems to be quite good.
