PostPosted: Sat 04 Jul, 2009 9:00 am    Post subject: Sword Collector Meet & Greet - July 19 in Marysville Ohi         Reply with quote

Just like the title of this post says I'm going to host a sword collector meet and greet (or a sword party) on Sunday July 19, 2009 in Marysville Ohio. The plan is for this to be a relaxed and informal opportunity to meet as peers with a shared interest that will give us all a chance to do a bit of show and tell with our collections.

For those with an inclination, it will also be a chance to a do a bit of light test cutting.

I will provide a small but adequte fenced backyard with a substantial deck and patio that is well shaded (shade is on the patio). An annoyingly loud air conditioner will be included to create atmosphere. The patio will come with several tables and will include more than ten chairs. On hand will be pool noodles (the evil brightly colored kind), a cutting stand of sorts (my way of saying its not a very nice stand), cold bottled water, soda and snacks for while the swords are out.

A bit of chilled beer, a grill and a fire pit will be available for when the swords get put away.

Date: Sunday July 19, 2009
Start time: roughly 1:00 PM
End time: roughly whenever people leave
Location: Will PM driving instructions to people no later than July 12.
Bring: Yourself and swords (the swords are technically optional but do make things more interesting)
Weather plan: I have a greatroom (its most of the house)

Confirmed swords and stuff list as of 07/04/09:

Albion Munich
Albion Yoeman
Arma Bohemia Longsword
DelTin 5156
Arma Bohemia Sallet
Arma Bohemia Rondel

I look forward to meeting anyone who can make it!

Please Note: This event is about swords and things that somehow relate to that theme. Because I'm in a suburban area, firearms are not invited unless they are over 150 years old AND all live (or potentially live) ammunition must stay off my property (I enjoy firearms but I don't have the right kind of facility to accomodate them).

Joe,
I changed this to an topic that will allow people to easily let you know they're coming. I'll be there. Happy

I'll bring a selection of knives and daggers, some of which are new to the group. I can also bring any of the following, just let me know what you want to see:

Albion Sovereign
Albion Baron
Albion Sempach
Albion Regent
Albion Gaddhjalt
Armour Class basket hilt
A&A Edward III
MRL helm
Lewis Moore gauntlets

I'd rather not drag everything up there if I don't have to. Happy

If anyone from Cincy or passing through Cincy wants to carpool, we can work something out.

Happy

Depending on my work schedule I may or may not be able to come. I'm not terribly far away, living in West Carrollton and I'd love the chance to meet some people as well as handle something that isn't a Windlass.

Could you drag the Baron, Sovereign, Regent and Armour Class backet hilt?

Just came back from taking the wife over to one of the Indiana casinos. West Carrolton is a pretty simply drive of about 90- minutes. I'd go up (or down) I-675 to I-70 then grab Rt. 4 through Springfield and it takes you almost to my front door. Hope you can make it over.

A bit of a high level shot of the region so everyone has an idea where Marysville is.

Will post some drill down shots as we close on the event.

Hey, it looks like I'll be able to go after all! Yea! Chad, if we could carpool together that would be great. Oh, and if you're gonna bring your Edward III then I'll leave mine at home - or I'll bring mine if you don't feel like bringing yours, just let me know.

I also have:

A&A Schloss Erbach
Del Tin 2148
Atrim model 1313
Purpleheart wooden wasters (two)
Windlass swept hilt rapier

Chad, it would be great if I could meet up at your place and carpool from there - it's a lot of driving for me. Do you have a vehicle large enough for Ed and me, plus our swords and folding tables? I can leave them if they're not required or desired. Just PM me directions to your house again. Thanks! Big Grin

I should have plenty of folding tables so I don't think anybody will need to bring more (wife advised she has two six foot long folding tables and can get more).

My wife has several of them.

I can drive the carpool if people can chip in a couple bucks for gas (the minivan doesn't get the best mileage) Happy. Mapquest says it's about 2 hours from my house to Joe's town. Can we meet between 10:30 and 11:00? I'd like to be on the road by 11:00.

Ted, I probably won't bring by Ed III, since Joe requested I bring 4 other swords and I was going to bring a bunch of daggers/knives, too.

Happy

Just got back in town and am catching up on posts.
I'll be there with my usual junk.

Guys, some good friends of ours whom we haven''t seen in about 6 years just called, and are in town for the weekend, so it looks like I'm going to have to pass up on play time with swords. Sad Hopefully, we'll have another one of these later this fall. Hope everyone has a great time!

Regretfully,

Chris

I'm sorry I had to cancel at the last minute. I was going to use Saturday to catch up on some chores but I was ill, so I had to use Sunday to do so. Unfortunately, that didn't allow me to participate. But definitely put me down for the next one!

From some of the talk on Sunday we might be looking towards pumpkin season in Cincy.
