Just got a European Smallsword with pierced hilt. It is dated 1762. It has a 33 inch blade with pitting in the middle. The grip is probably a replacement. I still think it looks pretty nice. Its on its way!

That's a very nice one! Is the blade cross section diamond or triangular?

Just got my sword in the mail. Very Interesting! This sword has a big, robust, 33 inch oval blade and handles more like a late period rapier. The butterfly guards are quite large for a smallsword. All in all its sort of like the 18th century version of a pappenheimer rapier! The engraving goes all the way down the blade. I dig it!

Nice piece, but not to be too picky, isn't that 1767 instead of 1762?

Yup, it is. I put up 67 on swordforum and 62 on here. I wonder If this blade was on another hilt at one time. While this hilt is right for 1767 it just seems to need a heavier hilt to balance it out.(in my opionion.. Still this could have been worn by a really big dude. Or someone who wanted reach.
