Does anyone know of any 13th-15th century daggers with octagonal or hexagonal pommels? I've come across one, likely now in a private collection. I can't think of any others. If you know of any surviving pieces or depictions in period art, I'd love to hear about them. Thanks!

Should I take the lack of replies as a lack of known examples of daggers with this form of pommel? Happy

Etienne,
Thanks! I've seen pommels like those on low-end daggers and some odd custom pieces for years. But I have yet to see a historical piece or bit of period art that looks like them. The one example I've seen of an octagonal pommel looks nothing like those.

Chad,

I think there might be one on display in the city of Rothenburg ob der Tauber in Germany. One of the museums there has a fairly extensive arms display. I recall seeing a weapon that had a unusual geometrically shaped pommel; I just can't say for sure if it was a dagger or a sword. I think it was the latter. Nevertheless, it might be worth looking into.

Anyone else have any daggers with this pommel form to share? I'm trying to see how unique the lone surviving example I know if is.
