Museums of Some Interest - North America -- myArmoury.com

Suspecting there are many more than the myArmoury Features lists, & not easily finding via search, I'm hoping this may be a useful idea... We end up with a short thread with a simple list of museums of some interest to myArmoury members. If this exists & I missed it or moderators know this thread is a bad idea feel free to cut off or delete it.

Suggest limiting entries to just 1 line, with at minimum the city & museum name. Leave it up to the potential visitor to research further (google, web site, separate threads, etc.) to decide if its worth their time during a visit to that area (not to mention find out latest - make sure the arms collection is still on display!). This way you are not vouching for the collection vs. their time, just helping (clueless :-) people know the museum exists. (Me too, its why I'm starting it :-)

If this turns out to be useful, perhaps we could start a similar thread for each continent. I'll start this one via 2nd post.

Please add more. Please start separate threads to ask for more info about a museum. Please keep this thread to just the list. Thanks!

There is one in Detroit Michigan that is very good. Detroit institute of art? Or some such.

Also the Toledo Museum of Art has *some* stuff. A wide variety, from Ancient Egypt on. But nothing all that substantial in the way of arms and armour.

Not a huge collection (substaintial but not huge), some nice pieces and very good variety.

The Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto is worth a stop. The collection is fairly small, but of quite high quality and considerable breadth.

They have quite a bit more stuff than their website would lead you to believe, having landed a major East Coast U.S. private collection quite a few years back.

Yes, unfortunately the Art Institute of Chicago has chosen to take the little arms and armour display to the storerooms for the foreseeable future. Mad

Please write them letters of disapproval.
A few pieces are shown in the "children's secton", but that's it.
The display was always well attended and liked.
Don't know why they chose to lock it all away.
