I've handled that sword before, and really liked it. It's one of the most comfortable grips I've ever held.

Congratulations on a great purchase!

I'm glad to see A&A's Saxon Military sword get some attention lately! It's a fantastic sword and one I've owned for about 15 years. During that same period of time, I've seen probably 60 swords pass through my hands so it's really saying something special about the Saxon Military given that it's been a constant in my collection.

I haven't added anything to this topic for quite some time so here's my latest:

It's a 17th Century Hanger as created by E.B. Erickson. ElJay created the entire piece including the elaborated shaped blade with its wonderfully complex geometry and fuller details. From my understanding, he spent a fair amount of effort finding the perfect piece of stag horn for the grip.

I recently acquired this fantastic piece via a trade with Sean Flynt who did a hands-on review of it several years ago.

This isn't typically a sword style in which I've been particularly interested. I've always appreciated them, but I've never sought to own a reproduction of the type. But I'm a huge fan of the E.B. Erickson's work so I scrambled to find a way to get this piece in hand when I learned Sean was thinking of selling it to fund another project.

Oh man am I glad I did! Once I got it, I learned quite a bit about this style of weapon! They feel great in the hand and I could tell immediately just how effective the design would be. I was also surprised that with a change of grip and pommel, the shape and styling would be extremely similar to earlier sword types dating even 150 years earlier!

I'm now finding myself extremely interested in this type of weapon and as a result, of hunting weapons from the 17th and 18th centuries. What I like about this hobby is that often a great piece such as this opens one's eyes and brings excitement where there once was none. Go figure.

My other recent purchase that I grabbed when Albion had their 25% off sale. It took me awhile to pay it off, as I had to sell off a few non-sword-related items to justify the purchase.

Albion Soldat grosse messer.

Man, am I glad I got this one...

You guys will have to wait to see photos of the whole sword. I haven't taken them yet. Attached are a few photos, though.

A Windlass English two handed long sword.
The blerb in the seller's item description said "This particular sword is a copy of number IV-1787 in the Royal Armouries in England."
I would like to see it if anyone can give me a link. I looked for it online for almost an hour before calling it quits.
Poor photo, but I thought I'd finally post something.

In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility;
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger:
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood.

She was a little confused about registration and all, so I thank whoever she contacted here to make the contact/arrangements! Wink

Concerning that Mercenary - You are a lucky man to get a sword as a gift. Not only did you get a sword, but you got a first-class one. Obviously, your wife knows what she is doing.

Thanks for the compliments and all involved regarding the Mercenary. I am exceptionally happy with it in my collection. Big Grin

It's very nice to have a wife that keeps up with my medieval / renaissance interests and knows enough to make good gift purchases. She is typically very cool about things unless I am wearing a bascinet around the garage in my boxers or cutting watermelons in the house with a pole axe.

I received my new Albion Allectus this last Tuesday.

I have two more Albions on order (Knight and Gallowglass), and I couldn't stand the waiting, so I bought this one from KultOfAthena (great service as usual). I am in the process of making a scabbard for it and I just finished the wooden core. It turned out a lot nicer than I thought it would for my first attempt. I'll make a topic for that tonight or tomorrow as I could use any input I can get from those of you who actually know what you are doing.
