What do we know about this (Stechhelm) helm? Have anyone seen something like this anywhere else?

I look for a safe and good locking late 14th .c tilting helm.

It looks very much like tilting great helms of the 15th century. It has a reinforcing wrapper, but the shape is still very much of the "frog-mouth" style popular later on. It's more developed than the Hawberk and Henry V helms which are slightly later.

It's odd (to me, at least), to see such a pronounced shape on the helm's front like that in the late 14th century. That pronounced forward sweep of the helm around the occularium is a feature of later helms. For comparison, check out Henry V's great helm:

It is slightly later than the Hohenklingen effigy, though it's likely earlier than the time of Henry's death. The area below the eyeslit sweeps forward, but not the top. As we get later, the sweep becomes more pronounced:

If that effigy is contemporary with Hohenklingen's death, then it would seem to be a somewhat early appearance of a form popular later on.

Here's an effigy from c. 1379:

Note how traditional the great helm is compared to the Hohenklingen example.

Happy
