I have made a repro of a folding Spanish knife, apparently a 'Navaja' and apparently 17thC. I really like the file work on the handle and the fact the whole knife is steel, but what is really odd is that it has an inbuilt weighing scale. There is a pivoting hook near the blade pivot and a spring balance built into the handle.

I have no idea why this knife was ever made, but I suspect that it was made for a merchant to his own specification. - complete speculation.

your repro is amazing. It is certainly the most unique piece I have seen in a long time.
Excuse my simple question, but how would you weigh with it? Probably not like with the knife in the picture I added?
Still, if you would do so, the file work on the back of the blade would help, wouldn't it?
