Check out the bolt on the bottom of this rather bad picture from a museum in Bavaria. Looks like a Roman pilum. Anyone seen these before? I would assume it would be good for armor piercing.

looks like a bolt rather than a pilum.

Well, it *is* a bolt (assuming that it's all original and not put together from unrelated parts, etc.), he just means that it looks like a pilum. Yeah, it does! Kind of odd, I wouldn't expect that long narrow shank on a crossbow bolt--cuz it might bend like a pilum! Never seen anything else like that, but crossbows are hardly my area of expertise. Wacky!

made for pricing mail i would believe with its head being so small and all
