Here's a couple that have recently shown up on eBay: 2246735180, an English broadsword ca. 1650; and 2247160471, a Scottish ribbon hilt broadsword.
The pommel on the ribbon has a very long elongation in place of a capstan.
The English sword is pretty nice.

Vince had mentioned to me last night that this ribbon hilt was up on e-bay ...... It is indeed very nice !

You gotta wonder how all of a sudden there are so many fine pieces coming down the pike ......

The auction on the beaknose ribbon hilt ended with no one meeting his asking price , GBP 3,000.00 (Approximately US $5,505.75 ) .......
The seller has now relisted this item, with a reserve instead, so the bidding has begun ! ( with me of course;-)
* be careful though as the bids are in GBP

Yep, I'll bet it's pretty close.... too rich for my blood, anyway....

Well, when I was the high bidder *g* ....
I asked the seller for a pic of the grip / inside of the basket, and he was nice enough to send me these shots, and this description of it !
He stated the grip is "ray skin" but he must have meant 'sharkskin', as that is what his auction description says (definiately not ray ) , and it has turks heads! Mac
* The reserve was met , and the current high bid is GBP 1600.00 ( just under 3k )

Koaisshin (Neil) has another fine sword up for sale ...... this one is a 'Hounslow' hanger dated 1644 .

Well, that's a pretty nice Hounslow, but I've gotta say that if I was to pay 12K I'd want one in better condition AND with silver inlay on the hilt!
Thomas, you're right: there has been a lot of decent items on eBay lately. Your idea about old collections/collectors is probably correct, too. I think when it's time to figure out what to do with my stuff the kids will get first choice, and then the remainder will be sold off to friends (I've got a pretty good idea of who wants what).

The Walloon is very familiar to me. It used to be in my collection a while back. A nice sword with the same arsenal marks as the one depicted in Wilkinson's book Swords and Daggers. An older grip but I dont know how old, working life may be a stretch.

That's a good Walloon, but what I want to take a look at is what looks like an English rapier with silver inlay: only the quillon is visible in the photo!

Here's an interesting auction, for a Regimental (looking) Backsword... it's in so-so condition.... can't tell if it's authentic or not, though.... and it's pretty cheap, so far....
