Albion is having a 10% off any NextGen until the end of the month. I have a little over $600 to spend from a previously failed purchase, so I'm trying to determine which sword I should get. I've limited myself to the Vinland, Gotland, and Norman... any suggestions?

Hi Timothy,

If you are REALLY solid about those choices, you should post this as a "poll". Of the three you have picked I would cast my vote for the Vinland.

Regards,

Mike

Good call... shoot, I should have polled it...

Thanks for the suggestion though Happy That's two votes for the Vinland.

Well, it should be the sword you like most, not which the majority of this forum likes most, but nonetheless I would choose the Norman. It has a very beautifully plain look.

Updated with the poll options...

And I wholeheartedly agree... it should be the sword I like the most. My problem is... I like them all Wink My darling "significant other" is pushing me towards the Vinland, but honestly ANY of them would be nice. I just thought I'd get some input from fellow collectors, some of whom may have these swords in question. Happy

Since your significant other likes the Vinland, and you like them all, give her a thrill and get the Vinland.

I vote for the Norman. Why? Because Albion is coming out with a new series of two-piece pommel Vikings, which in my eyes at least make the one-piece NG Vikings a little less desirable in comparison. The Norman uses a shorter Gaddhjalt (which I own) blade, so I can say the blade is very nice. Add to that a more historical construction than the one-piece NG Vikings and very simple, businesslike looks. Therefore, of those choices I would go with the Norman. Or, hey, check out the Gaddhjalt.

Tough choice! If this works I hope to send some pictures of my Vinland and scabbard.
Regarding the upcomming two piece pommel Vikings, they will be cool but at a higher
premium. This is a good dilemna to have, eh?
Best,

None of the above. Why not go for the stout, beefy, spata-like Clontarf? Big Grin

I own the Norman and it's great! It fills a great place in any collection as an early sword of the high middle ages and it's simple design gives it a wide applicability of time. It does have quite the blade presence however- and some may not like that- though it is historically accurate. I share the opinion that the upcomming vikings would be a more desirable option than those current. PM me if you have any questions about the Norman.

I (and probably others) could make a better informed suggestion toward your next acquisition if I knew what you already had and your main interests/objectives(barring that cultivate your significant others' interests, it could pay off in the long run).
