Hello
I got this cheapolian wall hanger on ebay. The blade was stainless. The pommel, and guard are cast aluminium,
but highly detailed.I mounted them on an ATRim flared shoulder blade. I know its not historical. But as a, fantasy viking sword, I`am pretty pleased Happy Has anyone seen, a guard like this, in any books. Other than the cover art, by Rojo,on the Conan books Happy
How comparatively strong, is cast aluminium, to cast brass? The pommel/guard seem solid enough.
Let me know what you think. Even criticism welcome( to an extent) Big Grin

The guard is actually a combination of the actual sword's guard and the scabbard chape rusted to the top of the blade. They've made it that way for years, though. Oh well. Happy

I've got to say that it is a beautiful sword now. Well done!

I was looking intently at the guard trying to figure out if it had historical bases when I read Chad's post. Now it makes a lot of sense! I can see the lines that would separate the guard from the chape, but as a fantasy sword, it really looks cool. Definitely one that I would carry.

Again, I think it's really excellent work.

Kudos to you! Cool

I LIKE IT!
Well done! Looks Great! That's the kind of sword I wouldn't mind being buried with. Big Grin Cool

Did it fit without too much work?

Are you scared, Connor?
No, Cousin Dugal. I'm not!
Don't talk nonsense, man. I peed my kilt the first time I went into battle.
Oh, aye. Angus pees his kilt all the time!

Hello
The pommel was no problem at all. But the stainless blade was a 1/16 th. thinner than the ATrim blade.
I had to widen the apature,on the guard. with a drill and fill.

thanks for looking

Hello
I had seen this, pommel/ guard /scabbard,set,on Viking Shield. So I kinda guessed that was the case.
But those sets are rather small. And wouldnt work on the ATrim blade. How do you think ,cast aluminium, and cast brass,
compare, strength wise? The aluminium seemed to be softer to drill and work.

Thanks

Personally, after looking at the hilt and blade some more, reminds me of a cross between a viking sword and a chinese imperial sword. (I think they're currently called tai chi swords)

Probably because of the detail work and how the guard seems to flow into the blade. The longer hilt may contribute to that appearance as well. Or I may just be seeing things after a long day at work! Laughing Out Loud

May I say again that the sword is stunning and you've done an amazing job. You've taken a "cheapo" sword, selected the pieces you liked, combined them with a functional blade, and made a work of art. I love it.
