Hi
Finally the three "new" Squire Line Vikings swords are available from Albion Europe.
Take a look at the SL Vinland, SL Gotland and the SL Clontarf.

Hi Søren,
I've been wondering, since Albion Europe is located in Denmark, I wouldn't need an import permit from the police, would I?
Regards,
Sonni

Hi Soeren,
What is the difference between a sharpened SL Vinland (or Gotland, or Clontarf) and a next gen. Vinland, except for the choice of the grip color ?
Thank you,
Jean

For one thing, the NG Vinland, Gotland, and Clontarf are all sold out, so if you wanted one, you'd need to get one used, whereas you can get a new SL.

I believe the SL doesn't have as fine a finish as the NextGen. I own a SL Clontarf, and it is a fine sword. I have not been able to compare it to a NextGen, however.

It is my understanding that the difference between the edge geometry of the SL models and the Next Gen line boils down to the edge of the SL being beveled and blended from what is originally thicker geometry than what is normal for a piece. The Next Gen lineup feature edges that are a seamless part of the overall blade geometry. So, while still quite nice, the edges and geometry of a sharpened SL piece are quite different from their respective Next Gen counterparts.

Thank you all, though I would prefer a reply by Soeren or Albion
Mike, your answer looks rather convincing
J. Kelley, your opinion is appreciated
Max, I own already a next gen. Vinland (in fact the first sword I ever purchased). But the price was roughly twice the price for the SL Vinland, hence my question

Hello Jean,
Mike is right about the edge geometry :-) Also the fittings on the SL Vikings are tumbled - which creates a different (and less time consuming finish) than on the NG version ...and finally no cord has been wrapped around the leather on the grip while drying - so there is no cord impression (like on the NGs).
Here is a close up of the SL Vinland grip.

That finish really appeals to me for some reason, it seems just about the perfect candidate for an instant antique, though I'm not sure I could justify doing that to an Albion. Of course, acquiring an Albion is the necessary first step

Thank you Soeren,
I was a bit puzzled because there is no advertising for these SL vikings on Albion US site.
I can see on the photo that there are no rivets under the upper cross either.
I will probably get in touch with you soon for a new order, though not for a SL viking....

Albion guys,
I like the idea of viking swords being less finely finished, seems appropriate. So then how well do these squire line Viking swords cut once sharpened?

Hi Mike,
Wow, that was quick! You must have been reading over my shoulder as I wrote my note. Thank you very much. Yes, I heartily agree $1000.00 + is a LOT of money! $505.00 for your sword sounds like really excellent value.
So, I take it you like your SL Clontarf ! How do you like the hilt? Have you terrorized any pool noodles or executed any jack o lanterns?
I'd been sort of thinking that the SL Gotland might have a place in my future. Your review of your sword certainly makes me more inclined to get it.
Have you made a scabbard and/or a baldric? If I bought the sword I'm almost certain I'd make a shield to go with it. I suppose a scabbard too but I haven't done much with leather.
Thanks again,
Ken Speed

This is not one of their Viking swords, but it is a review of a sharpened Squire Line sword: http://www.myArmoury.com/review_alb_13th.html

Thanks Chad,
As I said, I've been looking at these and wondering about them, I hadn't gotten to ogling them I was still in the looking stage.
You guys are nudging me into ogling. Shame on you!
These certainly sound like good solid swords and yet they are at a price point that allow an owner to use it and customize the grip for example without feeling like they're risking a small fortune.

I just wish that Albion would extend the Squire Line into the Medieval range a bit more. I'd love to see a SL Crecy, Agincourt, and Squire.
