I just bought some 500 B(whatever that means) poleyester "dacron like" string from BCY Bowstrings and I am a little confused. It is about as thick as kite string and is coated in some sort of wax or something. On the back it says "16 strands recomended" what does this mean? I tried putting 1 strand of string on and It held well, but when I made it tighter it broke. What do I do? [/code]
That means that they recommend that your bowstring be 16 strands thick. One method of making a bow string that works well and is simple once you understand it is the flemish bowstring. http://www2.pcom.net/jthutten/jth/doc/flemish.htm is one tutorial. Not enough pictures for my taste but gives the idea. There are a couple of video on Youtube about making a flemish bowstring and there is decent tutorial on the Bowyers Den site and tips in the Bowyers Bible as well.
If your confident on yourstring length then you can do a bowstring knot on both ends. If your less confident that you have the right lenght and/or not sure how much the string will stretch then you can make a sliding knot at the other end.
