There isn't too much to say about this sword that the pictures don't convey. The Squire is totally amazing -- both in finish and feel. I am extremely pleased with my purchase -- I dreamed of a XVI-type sword and the perfect example (as far as I am concerned) arrived at my doorstep yesterday.

It's always hard to judge size from a handful of pics, thus I was surprised by the size of the pommel. Having held the sword and swung it around for a while, the pommel and grip have really grown on me. The "weathered" look of the grip is fantastic. Also, I was surprised at the amount of flex in the blade. I guess that since this sword is both a cutter and a stabber, some flex is required to maintain its cutting ability.

Thanks to everybody at Albion for making this sword a reality -- it has exceeded my expectations by a wide margin. And thanks to Mike and the rest of the customer service team. This time, they went WAY above the call of duty to help me out. Howy -- give Mike a raise already!

And now, on to the pictures!

The Squire is a baeauty Stephen! That's also quite a substantial blade too. I am surprised at how wide it is at the base. The photos on Albion's website give no frame of reference. What a beauty!

That "business end" is remarkably sharp, isn't it? It's nice to see both this blade and some of the larger ones with more rounded contours being delivered at the same time.

I hate to suggest it, but this sword and the Prince would both look great with some artificial patination/aging applied. They are works of art fresh from the factory, but would also show real character in their old age.

Stephen,

Congrats on the new sword! I must admit that my interests are usually limited to 17-18th century swords. But I think it is great to see these swords transformed from Peter Johnsson's concept art to the creation of the actual sword. Albion is doing an awesome job! I wouldn't mind owning one. Wink

Well done by all.

The grip is 4 1/4 inches long. Unfortunately I don't have the equipment (ie a digital scale) to verify the stats posted on Albion's website. What I can say is the sword feels great!

Doh! Somehow I posted twice! Just as an FYI -- I've posted all my pics to the Albums. They should be available soon.

My Prince, which is the same blade with different hilt components, is within a half ounce of the weight listed on the website, according to my postal scale. So I would assume that your sword also is on target for total weight, plus or minus fifteen grams or so. Since the components are made to unusually close tolerances, I would be very surprised if it was overweight or underweight by more than that.

I'd agree for the Prince, but for the Squire the conversion is a bit out. Mike Sigmann says they'll get them corrected asap, but I think their website chap may have a different set of priorities at the moment.

Now I see what you mean. The weight in kilos is stated at 1.08 for both swords, but the weight in pounds and ounces is overstated for the Squire. The measured weight of my Prince is between 2 pounds 6 ounces and 2 pounds 7 ounces, just where it is stated to be. I assume the Squire will be essentially the same.

My fault, all of it, but I have not had a chance to fix it.

The scale we use is digital, so the weight comes out in 10ths of a pound -- what you see as "ounces" on some of the stats are actually tenths that somehow didn't get converted to ounces as I usually do...

Sorry -- will be fixed soon!

Best,

howy

Great looking sword Stephen, congratulations!

Thanks for posting pics of the sword in-hand. These are always a great help in terms of judging scale and proportion.

That looks fantastic!

The fit and finish look absolutly flawless -better by far than what I got out of Arm Art. A fabulous sword.

For that much money, the fit and finish better be perfect Wink

The NextGens are hot, and this one is no exception. I wish I had enough money for all of them!

What ArmArt did you get, by the way? I imagine some of their more expensive swords would be pretty tight and well-made.

The sword is my companion.

Timothy,
It may also be good to know when he got it. The earlier swords are supposed to be better than the newer ones. Also, they raised their prices at the beginnings of their backorder trouble. My Armart, an early one, is a really nice sword and only cost $450.

Stephen,
Sorry to hijack your thread. Hopefully it won't veer much farther off course.

Happy
