Hello all,
I had the great pleasure of attending a corporate event at the Gordon Highlanders Museum recently.
It isnt a massive place but it was very interesting and had some great stuff to see.
Great regiment, great history!!!
Of particular interest was the small armoury that they now have there.
It had:
- various UK rifles from SMLE 111 up to SA80
- various pistols
- World War 2 Japanese swords
- various WW2 era kukris
- and last but not least was about 10 Scottish broadswords that had come from late officers of the regiment
I was knocked over by the display and in an effort to see it more clearly I brushed against the display thereby setting off the alarm! I am so glad the guide was there and knew it wasn't an attempt to grab anything.
It's not a massive collection but it was good to see and should you find yourself in Aberdeen I would recommendf you go and see it. Just make sure it is open as for some months of the year it is completely shut.
ENJOY
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself
