I'm wondering when the false edge became a common feature among the Chinese dao. It's present in a substantial proportion of the Ming-era examples I've seen, but I don't know whether it would have been as common in earlier periods--like the Han or the Tang--or that if we even have enough material to say how common it was in these periods.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks beforehand.
