As a newbie to this hobby i am primaraley intrerested in,for my first sword one of a viking design.If possible one that was used in the battle of maldon by either side (vikings or saxons). I would like to keep the price below $500.00 if at all possible. Thank you.

You could try the Albion Squire Line Viking.

There's also Albion's expanded line of Squire Line Viking swords available at www.viking-shield.com .

Kris Cutlery also makes an early viking pattern for under $300. A real shield-splitter. Simple but good looking.

if you need a 2mm edge for reenactment combat I would suggest either a Paul Binn's (not Paul Chen) or an Armor Class blade. I own one of each (Norman and Viking) and they handle nice and look great. Viking shield, the link above, sells both.
