Here is the latest 2nd brass basket hilt from E.B Erickson that was picked up during our yearly sword meet over in Morro Bay, Ca...
I just need to mount one of the bare blades I have on hand which I'll probably never get around to doing it (lazy) since I have yet to mount the other brass brasket hilt that ElJay had made...

Thanks ElJay for yet another beauty! See ya next year!

Ben,

Congratulations! The brass baskets have always fascinated me. They differ in subtle ways from their steel counterparts, while giving the same overall impression. ElJay did a fantastic job capturing the look of an original -- not at all surprising! I really like the dark leather grip against the brass -- they really complement each other well.

Was the other brass hilt you referred to the brass ribbon hilt he made?

Thanks for sharing!

Chris

Ahhh. I love it, Ben. Congratulations! Get us some more pictures when (if??) you get it mounted.

Ben,

I was looking through The Swords and the Sorrows trying to figure out if your basket was based on any of the original brass hilts in the book. The basket looks similar to 1:23 but the pommel favors 1:28. Do you know if ElJay used any of these swords for his inspiration?

Also, does your basket have a wrist guard? Couldn't tell from the angle of the photos posted.

Thanks Chris and Steve

Chris yes, the other brass that ElJay did for me was the ribbon hilt. When I asked for the brass ribbon at that time back in 2005 I chose it for being different since I could not recall any custom full brass basket hilts out there and since then I have been a big fan of the ElJay brass hilts hence this new one! I'll have to get off my lazy arse and mount some blades WTF?! but then again I would be happy with putting them in a nice green or black silk lined wooden box with a glass top...also, what I did not know was that ElJay has one of the original antiques of this hilt/sword!
Pt2 This hilt I choose last year out of CYRIL MAZANSKY's book British Basket-Hilted Swords ISBN-10: 1843830531 which is based on the original F19 (p.126) It has a nub of a wrist guard that I did not capture too well

Steve will do....someday....

Both of those examples are brilliant. They're beautiful. I am particularly grateful to see them photographed side-by-side.

Congratulations on this wonderful addition to your collection, Ben !

Eljay does such super work and it's always a thrill to see something new from his talented hands.

This piece has that "Edinburgh" style look to it .... excellent job all around !!
