From the Collection of Alfred Hutton
Alfred Hutton was a military officer, a fencer, and studier of historical swordsmanship in Victorian England. During his time he amassed a decent collection of antique arms, which no doubt were a lot cheaper during his time. His collection is now scattered about in museums.
Of most interest to me is the rapier-foil which he had possession of, There is a sketch of it in his book The Sword through the Centuries and I finally came across an actual photo of the rapier which is located in the Victoria & Albert Museum.
note: the flat cross section of the blade and how the ricasso is wider than the rest of the blade. (I'd love to see how this piece handles and flexes )
A.V.B. Norman hilt classification-
hilt type 38 "From about 1550 onwards"
Norman mentions this foil on pg.102 of The Rapier & Smallsword, 1460-1820 Attachment: 74.75 KB
