Hi All, I have the entire "A Knight and his____" 5 book series for sale. I would like to sell them as a group but am asking $10 per book + shipping.
The books are:
A Knight and His Weapons - This 1964 volume (this is a 1997 reprint) offers everything you wanted to know about spears, lances, axes, maces, hammers, swords, daggers, and even crude firearms. Oakeshott presents the history of each weapon, including how it was made and used in battle.
A Knight and His Armour - Oakeshott focuses on the armor of the later Middle Ages, from 1100 to 1500, He examines how armor developed, how craftsmen made the important garments of mail and plate, and he looks in detail at the different kinds of helmets and which were the best. He also looks at the other important aspects of a knight's armor, such as the helm, shield, and spurs, and finishes up with a discussion of how the armor was worn. Along the way he dispels a number of myths about medieval armor, such as the one that the armor was extremely heavy ("men never had to be hoisted into their saddles with cranes").
A Knight and His Castle - Traces the design, building, and defense of castles throughout medieval Europe, and describes the daily life of a knight.
A Knight and His Horse - Oakeshott's multivolume study of medieval knights continues with this 1962 (1998 reprint) volume. The gallant knight clad in armor upon his charging steed is an image we all know from literature and film, but Oakeshott eschews the romance of jousts in favor of the facts behind them, their rules, and the equipment used. This update adds a 13-page glossary. Both adults and children will find this of interest.
A Knight in Battle - Recounts four medieval battles of different tactical styles and discusses the changes in weapons and armor between 1100 and 1500.
They are all paperback and are in near pristine condition. Please PM me with any questions.
Cheers,
