Thanks Mac! I'm really enjoying your photos. I'm mainly focused on Oakeshott swords, but some pistols you phographed are a real joy. I think those are banned where I live (Finland), but still I can feel the goodness of them.

Jeff Millet has added the single 'MacLeod' pistol to the auction block, at antiqueguns.com !
http://www.antiqueguns.com/auction/item.cgi?jmillet/jmillet-48
Wish I had the extra $$ , Mac
This is an exquisite and high quality, fully-engraved Scottish officer\'s style \"Ram\'s-Horn\" butt flintlock pistol by the famed maker MacLeod. Circa 1820. It is engraved overall with thistles, flowers, scrolls, sunbursts, chevrons, dotted lines and infills; \"Mac Leod\" is hand-engraved on the lockplate (see photos). This pistol measures approximately 12 inches in overall length, with a 7-inch round barrel that becomes octagonal and flares toward the muzzle. Rear sight on a standing flange; no front sight as typical for the type. Note the rare, reverse-curved \"ram\'s-horn\" reinforced flint cock. Most screw heads are also engraved. Of all-steel construction, and completely original including the ball trigger, finely-formed touch hole pricker, and multi-stage turned ramrod. Complete with an original, nicely-shaped and decorated belt hook mounted on the left side. MacLeod is believed to have worked in the famed Scottish gunmaking capital of Doune (the location of his shop has not been confirmed by arms historians). His quality arms are marked with post-1813 Birmingham view and proof marks, doubtless to satisfy a more discerning Lowland clientele. In all, a very desirable piece.

Next is the basket-hilted sabre I bought from Jeff Millet Co.
This piece, as mentioned above, turned out to be an E.B. Erickson hilt that was coupled with an antique blade !
The sword has a wonderful old look and feel to it and makes a great addition to my collection !

Hi Patrick
Actually they're softwood floors ;-)
The floors here are all wide-board pine with them big square head nails holding everything down !
Occationally I have to get out the hammer and bang a few down !
And the creeking always gives me that "easy country charm" feeling that John Denver sang so sweet about :-)
(my daughter will never be able to sneek out of this place at night ;-)

Mac,
According to the numbers, the weight seems light, and POB close. How does your new "baby" feel in the hand?

Creaking wood floors were never a problem for my daughter. Here in Florida, we get the "charm" of concrete slabs!! Of course, most homes are single storey anyway, so the wayward youths can just jump out the window

Hi Steve
The sword feels nice in hand ..... very light & fast !
It's a little shorter, blade length-wise, than I'm used to .... and gives it a bit of a hanger feel !
It actually has a good 'blade presence' to it ..... I think the POB is where it should be !
All 4 of my Vince Evans baskethilts balence within 3" inches, as does my antique Irish hilt, but I think the perfection in feel with these pieces comes from the maker, or slipper, knowing what mass needs to stay, or go, more than any of its numbers! (Peter Johnsson did a post that really helped explain this stuff)

Yeah, Mac. The art of constructing a sword, while effected by the numbers, seems to go way beyond just the numbers to, well, art.

Hi Ben
Yes .... and I do appreciate your indecision on this one ;-)
Actually, I initially hesitated too ..... as Vince had shown it to me right when I'd arrived !
But at that point I'd not had the chance to really see what else was there, so I passed it by !
(or I should say .... what else was there that I could afford, as there was plently I wish I could have left with :-)
Eventually I did go back , though, and secured it from the busy buying wallet of one Ben Sweet ! ;-)
Anyways .... ask and ye shall receive, mi amigo !
Shots of my new one with my other Eljay baskethilts, with my antique 'Irish' hilt, and my Vince Evans !
You take care, Ben ! Mac
