This is my first question post so thanks in advance :D Has any one any drawings or pics of the above daggers for a reconstruction I have pics from the Osprey books but none of the origonal items. I have read information on them from 4thBC- 3rd AD but lack the archeological information. I have already made Ring Pommel swords for the 3rd AD which there is some good information for them and pics.

Thanks for posting this. In searching for the information relating to your request, I discovered a group of people that I hadn't heard of before.

Result very many thanks Jim :D This will help me as to put at least some of the disriptions I have with the blade. It is a bit wider than I thought and it looks like it has a leaf profile to the blade. Thanks for the link :D As to the other one to RAT I am on that Forum and found it when I was researching for the Ring Pommel Swords I was making. So many thanks for your time :D I had the request from a client who I did a Fulham Gladivs, and two of his members are Sarmation archers hence they want a couple of daggers, I cannot make them right now as I am a bit busy on swords but this will help in the research for when I can do them :D

Please note I don't speak Russian, so I am unable to help with any further information.

I also believe the following is Russian for "Sarmatian Swords": сарматские мечи

If you do a search with that term it brings up several interesting items.

Danny many thanks, again :D I dont speak Russian either. Excellent pics though so thanks, Most seam to be short sword versions with a few daggers as well. I can add the sword pics and info to my research on them so all round brillant :D
I will post a few pics of the daggers when I can get round to them.
Also if anyone has information on the swords I would be interested in that also :D

Hey Tony. Thanks again for this thread. Because of your inquiry, I have discovered a culture and People that, for some reason, I have never run across. I has been a very interesting experience learning of this ancient civilization.

I have a question concerning the Sarmatian swords and daggers. Do they have anything in common with the Irish ring-hilt? Does the end of the tang on the Sarmatian weapons pass completely through the ring as is the case with the Irish-hilt? As the Sarmatians have been described as having blond hair by ancient Greek writers and they also spoke an Indo-European language, I have wondered if there is a possible cultural connection between the Peoples.
