|
|
In the "I thought I saw a thread with this sword but can't find it" category...
This popped up in a FB group today and I could have sworn it was discussed here, might have even been in "Makers" section. Did a reverse image search to get the following description, from which I grabbed key-words to do a search here. No luck.
Does this ring a bell with anyone? Is there already a discussion that I simply cannot find? Thanks.
Description associated with picture:
An Eastern European Medieval Sword with Scabbard, first half of the 14th century The hilt all encrusted with silver (niello). The blade inlaid with gilt inscriptions. The upper back side of the blade engraved with a Mameluk inscription (arsenal of Alexandria). Leather bound scabbard with silver mounts. Overall length: 105.3 cm (41.5"); Blade length: 88.4 cm (34.8"); Scabbard length: 89.5 cm (35.2”) Located at Reichsstadtmuseum Rothenburg, Germany.
Picture (and I give up on trying to figure out how to get a picture to show in here - it's small enough, right type, and is of proportions I've attached before - which don't seem to be listed as requirements any longer.. ):

Linked your post into the group and noted that it was created and copyrighted by you.
As for the creds for the sword, I recall that there are more than a few "questioned" items at that museum.
