This listing is marked SOLD and is no longer available

The Knight and the Blast Furnace …. A History of the Metallurgy of Armour in the Middle Ages & the Early Modern Period … by Dr. Alan Williams

History of Warfare Volume 12

Hardback (no d.j.) ~ 950 pages; 100+ (I didn’t count) b/w photographs of armour elements (most accompanied by photo of microstructure) ATTENTION: there are two pages with tears (not my doing) … no material missing; no photographs involved

Metallurgical analysis of plate armours 14th-17th C. Most comprehensive survey of which I am aware. Discussion of evolution of Italian and German armour manufacture as well as survey of all national centers of armour manufacture. Discussion of ferrous metallurgy, mail (“chain mail”), small section on sword metallurgy, discussion of “how effective was armour.”

Asking $260 (includes shipping/packing/insurance in the lower 48)

Thanks!
