Peter Johnsson Custom Type X Sword

13th Century Europe

The pommel and guard have a satin finish and are forged from mild steel. The blade is classified as an Oakeshott Type X: broad and of medium length with a wide fuller running almost the whole length of the blade. The grip's core is made of birch wood and bound with fine cord and covered with leather.

The scabbard has a core made of birch and is then covered with leather that has been incised with simple geometric lines that frame the scabbard's profile. At the ends, the belt has been forked and laced into itself. A chape and a buckle that are both hand-forged finish off the whole ensemble. The chape features a very attractive foliate pattern that is elegant and beautifully executed.
